The University of Florida Academic and Research Center has broken ground on 100,000 square foot Comprehensive Drug Development Center adjacent to Sanford Burnham. It will offer a Ph.D. program, a college of Pharmacy and have 15 biomedical research laboratories. In addition to housing research activity and the doctoral program in Pharmacy, the University of Florida center will be the site of a 5 year study on mobility in the elderly. The UF Academic and Research Center at Lake Nona will house three major activities relating to the mission of the university: a unique Comprehensive Drug Development Center; the UF College of Pharmacy doctoral program; and an array of biomedical research laboratories.
Opening in 2012, The University of Florida Academic and Research Center will play an important role in Florida’s technological and economic leadership. The 100,000 square foot Comprehensive Drug Development Center will stand adjacent to the Stanford Burnham Medical Research Center and offer a Ph.D. program, a College of Pharmacy with 15 biomedical research laboratories. In addition to its research activity and doctoral program in pharmacy, UF Academic and Research Center at Lake Nona will be the site of a five year study on mobility in the elderly. Housing three major activities relating to the mission of the university, a unique Comprehensive Drug Development Center, the UF College of Pharmacy doctoral program offers a diverse complex of biomedical research laboratories. Attracting scholars with a thirst for learning and discovery, University of Florida Academic and Research Center will work to reach goals of new inventions and procedures that will benefit not just Florida, but the world.
University of Florida and Sanford Burnham leaders look forward to the collaborative efforts of each of the institutions, working together, combining their strengths in all the sciences with their state of the art facilities. With UF’s demonstrated leadership in technology licensing, coupled with the research of the Lake Nona facilities, great things are expected to happen in the future.
By 2017, the impact of the school, the health and life science cluster at Lake Nona are expected to create not just innovation in medicine and research, but over 16,000 jobs, over $5 billion in annual wages and more than $245 million in annual tax revenue.
